Odmahnuti rukom - engleski?

7 posts in this topic

Izgubio sam jedno pola sata razmišljajući kako da na engleskom kažem "On odmahne rukom." U kontekstu:

"- Nije to bitno - on odmahne rukom. - Hajde da pričamo o važnijim stvarima."

Odmahnuti rukom? Kako se to kaže? Ima li iko ideju?

Nezgodno je što engleski nema sve te divne oblike, odmahnuti, zamahnuti, razmahnuti, nego samo mahnuti... I meni je palo na pamet "he waived his hand" ali to nekako uvek dovodim u vezu sa mahanjem (a ne odmahivanjem), dok "he waved it off" više tumačim u fazonu "odbio je" ili tako nešto.

Evo malo ruskog :)

He said, i u vražju mater.

"Never use a verb other than “said” to carry dialogue. The line of dialogue belongs to the character; the verb is the writer sticking his nose in. But said is far less intrusive than grumbled, gasped, cautioned, lied. I once noticed Mary McCarthy ending a line of dialogue with “she asseverated,” and had to stop reading to get the dictionary."
