Hello dear colleagues,

By the end of this week I'm going to travel to Montenegro, via Horgos and Brodarevo. As I'm going by car I'm a bit scared about road conditions after the flood. Especially roads near Obrenovac, Lazarevac and Valjevo (from Valjevo to Uzice, road 21) make me worried. Do you have any information about road conditions there? Could you please advise if those roads are driveable?

I will appreciate any information.

Thank you very much in advance, have a great day.

As far as I know, all the major roads are in a fair shape (i.e. not much worse off than before the flood  ) so there is not much reason to worry. See the official AMSS page with a map:

The remaining ruined bridges are mostly on minor local roads; in western Serbia, major blocked routes are Ušće-Ivanjica and Mionica-Bogovađa, but you're unlikely to use either.

Where do you travel from? The normal routes from Horgoš would be

  1. E-75 to Belgrade, then using "Ibarska" via Lazarevac, Gornji Milanovac, Čačak and Užice, or
  2. E-75 to Novi Sad, then Ruma, Šabac, Valjevo, Kosjerić, Požega, Užice

#1 is longer but faster. However, everybody hates "Ibarska" for heavy traffic, trucks and crazy drivers, so #2 is a more relaxed variant.

I actually thought about going like that:

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Horgo%C5%A1,+Serbia/Brodarevo,+Serbia/@44.1362923,19.7506662,9z/data=!4m13!4m12!1m5!1m1!1s0x474484b6837550c1:0x46445c4fe882179b!2m2!1d19.970278!2d46.153333!1m5!1m1!1s0x1352ad01c5203fc5:0xcdf8eca2228ccd58!2m2!1d19.716667!2d43.216667

So it would be kind of option one mixed with option 2 (to Belgrade, then Lazarevac, but then to Valjevo, and to Uzice...

Do you think it's fine?

Yeah, I googled it myself in the meantime (it uses relatively new Belgrade bypass).

That's an OK option, as it avoids passing through Novi Sad and across Fruška gora compared with my #2. I'd only turn left in Divci, before Valjevo, and go across Mionica and Divčibare, which is slightly slower but beautiful part (consider taking a short rest at Divčibare and even buying some local products at the market near "Beli Bor" restaurant in its "center"). I don't think you'll see much of flood damage along the way, so don't worry about it.

This time I plan to travel by night, so I wont have much chances to enjoy the views, but I will return during the day so I will definitely consider this road! :)

Many thanks!

In that case, you might reconsider my option 1 (from Lazarevac, go to Gornji Milanovac-Čačak instead of Valjevo). That road ("Ibarska") is wider, well marked and relatively straight, and more easily passed by night, when the traffic is lighter (that's the "default" road for Belgraders to go southwest). By contrast, south of Valjevo (around Divčibare) is a mountain pass (~900 m altitude) with serpentines, curves and whatnot, whichever way you cross it. Much more scenic, but perhaps not for a night ride.
