Hi,

I'm coming in Novi Sad for the week end and was wondering if any one of you Novi Saders could give me some good tips/adresses about the city. Bars, serbian restaurants, grill (where can I eat the best cevape in Novi Sad for instance, hehehe)?

I'm coming from Zagreb by train to Ruma and then from Ruma to Novi Sad by bus. They told me at NS tourist office that there are several buses between Ruma and NS and that it takes 30/45 mn. Can you tell me about the frequency of these buses (or a link to the timetable) - as I am a bit afraid to be bloqued in Ruma for hours...

Thanks a lot.

xav

PS: thanks marko for the tip!

Novi Sad is great place to walk around. It will take you few hours but you will enjoy it. For food I would suggest restaurant called Balkan Express which is in University campus right in the back of Natural Science faculty (big glass blue building). You will see the passage between blue and yellow building and right in the back is the restaurant.

From Ruma you also have taxi's which will take you to Novi Sad at the same price as the bus if there is 4 people to go.

Take a walk around Pasiceva street and go to French culture center and take a look at Serbia travelers club photo exhibition.

Enjoy your time.

Thanks for the french cultural center tip... it would have been great to check the exhibition. And being french myself, I'm always curious to see how our cultural centers look like. I will only be in Novi Sad tomorrow around 1 pm at best... Until when is it open on saturday? here in Zagreb it's until 2 pm. So if it's approx. the same I might be able to check.

Can someone tell me what is a Karadordeviceva snitzla (not sure about writing but you propably get the point)? Everybody is telling me to eat this in Novi Sad...

Marko --> the best cevape I've ever had were on a road side restaurant (if you can call a kiosk with 2 tables a restaurant...) in Derventa in Republika Srpska. The cleanest thing in this restaurant was... me. If there is something I don't take seriously is people telling me cevape are bad  ;D

hvala svima za pomoc!!!

the best cevapi i ever had in novi sad r in "banjalucki cevap" in gajeva street.from railway station go straight ahead down the bulevar oslobodjenja on the third crossroad u'll c the market there turn left in jevrejska street and then the first street on the left after bout 30 meters is gajeva.there u'll see a grill.i think it's the best cevapi in novi sad.

u should also try one local fast food specialty...it's called "index".it's a type of sandwich with grilled ham, hard cheese and mushrooms and with souces and sallads of ur choice.

the best index u can find near ns fair building.from the railway station go ahead down the bulevar and on the first crossroar turn right and go for bout 500m u pass the ns fair building and bout 100m after this building on the left side of the road u will see a few grill bungalows.one is selling giros and the other is selling index's.the grill is  called maja index.

u should also try burek, the best one in novi sad is in city center in dunavska street.when u go from zmaj jovina street to the park on the left side of the street is a bakery,it looks nice and old with little wooden doors on the windows, but that bakery works only in the morning (dunno why) in 12.00 is closing time.

u got nice bars, caffes and pubs in laze teleckog street in the centar,u can also visit some caffes and restorants on the petrovaradin fortress but prices there r a bit higher than average.

i know one really nice bar-restorant not so far from the centar.try to find kosovska street it goews from ortodox church and gimnasium go ahead and on the second crossroad turn left (i dunno the name of that smaller street) after bout 50m u will se a bar-restorant called "kafanica".really nice  pl;ace with quiet atmosphere.

enjoy your weekend in novi sad.

Hi.

Back from Novi Sad... Nice city, actually nothing "unmissable" there but atmosphere is really nice with these pedestrian streets, great cafes, a lot of animation in the streets... I was impressed by the fortress and how it is in such a good shape. The view is great up there as is having a cofee on the terrasse...

Slept in Downtown hostel, which was ok. Excellent location but the lack of lock on the door of the room was not so nice. But I paid really cheap money so it was excellent value actually...

Had a diner in Balkan Express thanks to Cruela's advice. Great food, enormous portions, live music, excellent and really nice service. Fantastic restaurant.

But waouh, the best in Novi Sad is by far its people. People are so nice and friendly, so welcoming.

Thanks again for your tips everybody...
