Dobro vece

Zao mi je, apologies, my Serbian is very poor.  Thank you for the opportunity to ask questions in English.  If only we could offer our visitors the same service in reverse!

We are a family of four from Scotland who would like to camp in Serbia in July this summer.  We will be travelling by public transport, to and from Dubrovnik, with two small 'back-packing' tents and would be very grateful if anyone had any information about

small campsites (i.e. not the big autocamp sites) near to either train or autobus routes and villages/towns with shops and restaurants

how much camping is likely to cost us

what sort of camping fuel people use in Serbia.

Hvala!

Hmmm...

Small campsites, not the big autocamps U say.

Try looking for it here:

I think most of those listed are autocamps, but I'd also say that I don't recall camping sites of other sort, at least not in big numbers. Try asking the guys from the "camping association of serbia", maybe they'll have some more info.

As far as I know there are no camping fees for camping in the country and either it's not regulated yet or noone enforces the regulations on that issue. At least, we didn't have problems other than camping on someones land where the owner showed up surprised and also surprising us.

Maybe someone else from the forum knows more about it...

Can a suggestion on a place for camping (which is not an official camp) help U, or U only wanna do it the straight way?

The other possibility is : with the list of planned stopovers, you could get recommendations for appropriated 'unofficial' , free of charge, camping places in those areas. ;)

i have the impression that the whole serbia is a camping site, because, wherever we spotted the ideal place for our tent, it was possible to stay. we have never had any problems with owners, sometimes you can even ask people to put your tent in their yard. if you don't need "official" camping site, you shouldn't have problems with camping wherever you like, close to the water, village, whatever you need.

thank you everyone for your replies...

braker - our itinerary is as yet unplanned, we were thinking of spending about a week traveling by train from Montenegro to Beograd, maybe stopping off at one or two points on the way - so any suggestions would be welcome!

Acketa - any suggestions similarly welcome!  Not bothered about doing it the straight way  ;)

Well, what do you want to see ?

If you'd like to see some beautiful nature, probably there is no need to leave Montenegro, because Montenegro is much more beautiful than Srbija. If you like large cities (and big rivers), then come directly to Beograd and Novi Sad. We can propose you a lot of stuf, but we don't know what are you looking for ;).

I do not agree that Montenegro is more beautiful than Serbia. These two countries differ in many ways as far as nature is concerned. Both of them have a lot to offer...

Braker - thanks for the link

Vlada/Lithobrowser - I will leave you to have that debate, both countries look fantastic to us.

I suppose we are looking for somewhere quiet and rural to camp for a few days to break our journey to/from Beograd.

Any suggestions on good value accommodation in Beograd would also be gratefully received.

hvala, once again!

have you checked: https://www.klubputnika.org/en/index.php/destinations ? we have information in english on number of places in serbia... you might find something interesting...

or, you can, for example, get off the train in prijepolje. it is a very nice small town to stroll around, and famous monastery mileševa is only about 5km from the town. a few hundred meters from the monastery there is a mosque, an old fortress and some villages. nature is also wonderful.
