Posted April 13, 2010 Izvor: http://www.mfa.gov.al/ With the adoption and entry into force of the law "On foreigners", our country has undertaken the establishment of a legal framework, which is designed in accordance with all EU directives and provisions of the Schengen Agreement. The Government of Albania has signed an agreement to liberalize the visa regime with all countries of the region, excluding Croatia, with which we have unilaterally removed the visa regime, and Serbia, with which the visa regime remains in force. This situation puts the Albanians of the Presevo Valley and all Serbian citizens of Albanian nationality in a discriminatory position. Because of the visa regime, unlike all other Albanians in the region to enter Albania, they have to get a visa at the Embassy of the Republic of Albania in Belgrade. At the meeting of April 13th 2010, at the proposal of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Council of Ministers has approved the unilateral liberalization of short-stay visa regime for citizens of the Republic of Serbia. This proposal also relies on the argument that after 19 December 2009, Serbian citizens travel without visas in the Schengen area, while through an earlier decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania, Schengen visas on passports of citizens of countries with which Albania maintains a visa regime, are directly recognized as a valid leave to enter our territory. This way we complete the harmonization of the "white list" (citizens of countries who enter our country without a visa) with the list of Schengen countries. The first point of the decision states that Serbian citizens, holders of valid travel passports, can enter the territory of the Republic of Albania without visas, for short-term stay or transit purposes.
