Posted February 3, 2018 Hi, pretty soon I am going to cross Serbia on foot and then continue to Bosnia, Croatia and more. I would appreciate some information from you regarding some concerns I might have. I will start the trip from the Bulgarian border aiming to follow the route Pirot-Nis-Krusevac-Kraljevo-Cacak-Sabac, trying to enter Bosnia from Bijeljina or Brcko (not sure about the checkpoints and border with Srpska ) . As my budget is very small, I will be travelling with a tent and sometimes might use cheap accommodation or couchsurfing if I find in some bigger towns. I have a lot of experience with walking long distances, but in that particular case I am just not sure what to expect, as the experience would be quite different. I mean what would be the best way to walk through Serbia in your opinion? Should I avoid the big main roads? Are there some alternative walking routes (or secondary roads) going east to west? What is the law in Serbia regarding pedestrians walking on roads ? How about finding campsites? And in general is it ok if I just put my tent on the country side making sure that I dont disturb anyone? Тhanking you in advance Kind regards, Reply
Posted February 3, 2018 No need to avoid main roads. You can walk on most roads, watch out tunnels. Why not Čačak - Užice - Višegrad? Reply
Posted February 4, 2018 Thanks for the answer Relja. So I could walk on e80 Pirot-Bela Palanka-Nis for example next to the Park Prirode Sicevacka klisura, along the Nisava river. Its good what you are saying to enter Bosnia through Visegrad, I was thinking of going Sabac-Bijeljina-Tuzla in order to enter from above, but it will depend on the budget and other factors. I think you have more then ten tunnels from Pirot to Niš, most of them in Sićevaćka klisura. There was one just oustide Pirot, maybe alternative is from Bela Palanka to Svrljig, but it is via mountains. Nature is more beautiful around Višegrad, and through Rogatica and Sokolac to Sarajevo, or Goražde. But it is also nice from Čačak to Šabac, especially if you go through mountains via Valjevo ie... but also it is cold these days I guess. Reply
Posted February 4, 2018 Why not 428/427 Pirot - Bela Palanka - Niška Banja, parallel to E80? I'm not familiar with the area, but it's a regional road bound to have much lighter traffic than the highway, and it does not seem particularly difficult to walk. Thanks for the 428/427, I saw it now. I will definitely take it. Well I have two options for crossing Serbia and they look like this: Variant 1 Enter BiH through Bijeljina From Bulgaria to Dimitrovgrad Pirot – 25 km Bela Palanka – 25 km (follow 427) Nis- 52 km Nis- Aleksinac – 32 km (follow 217) Paracin – 50 km Jagodina – 20 km (follow 158) Kragujevac – 36 km Cacak- 55 km (follow 182) Nis-Prokuplje - 29 km (follow 35) 36 km (follow 418) Krusevac – 42 km (from Aleksinac 215) and 60 km (from Prokuplje 216) Kraljevo – 60 km Cacak – 36 km Kosjeric – 50 km Valjevo – 43 km Koceljeva -30 km Sabac-37 km Variant 2 entering through Visegrad Uzice – 50 km Bajina Basta – 32 km Visegrad- 50 km (from Bajna Basta and 70 km direct from Uzice) I wish you all the best, and thanks for the info. There was one just oustide Pirot I remember having walked through that one several times while hitchhiking. Not a great experience but it's definitely doable. Just make sure to have some reflectors on your backpack. Reply

Never took it And as I remember the area, it can not be so easy to walk, but probably not much worse then alternative I proposed. Reply
