Hi brothers from Serbia,

We plan to visit Djerdap NP and as for that we will depart from Beograd and will stop in Golubac, Donji Milanovac and end our journey probably somewhere in Tekija. I would like to ask several questions..hopefully not that many  ;)

Is there direct bus connection from Beograd to Golubac or we have to change bus in Požarevac?

Are there any possibilites of accomodation on our way or is it better to take a tent?

Our another destination is Sarajevo, so do we have to return back to Beograd to take a bus/train to Sarajevo or is there any other nearest city from which there is a train/bus connection to Sarajevo (or at least to Užice?)

If we have to return back to Beograd, is there direct bus connection between Donji Milanovac and Beograd or is better to take a train going through Majdanpek?

We will visit Serbia for the first time, so we are really looking forward to see your country..

Pozdrav iz Slovačke i puno hvala Vam! ;)

Michal

Can you manage to use this bus timetable? http://www.bas.rs/redvoznje.asp If not, shout for help :) According to it, there are 6 daily buses connecting Belgrade and Golubac.

As for the other questions, I hope someone else will answer them for you.

of course I can manage  :)

puno hvala tebi  klanj::

There are two (I think) buses a day (one in the morning and one in the evening) from Nis to Sarajevo via Krusevac, Cacak, Uzice. There is also a daily bus from Majdanpek to Nis (also a daily train connection) or Kladovo - Nis bus. I can check all the info about buses to and from Nis (Nis is one of the biggest crossroads in the Balkans). Otherwise, you can take some bus to Cuprija and Paracin and then try to get to Uzice. I don't think that you have to return to Belgrade. Tell me if you want me to call Nis bus station and give you precize info...  :mah:

You can easily rent a house in Tekija, almost every house is for rent there :) Just ask locals. When I was there, a year ago, the price per bed was around 500din, it was around 6 euros. Maybe they will try to take you more money, if they realize that you are a foreigner, but don't let them to cheat you :) By the way, Tekija provides you an incredible view on the river Danube, and it is also really calm and pleasant place for stay.

I also recommend you to climb the peak Veliki Strbac. It's not to hard to do that, the peak is only 768m high, and you will get an amazing view on the Kazan- the deepest part of the river Danube. That area is under protection, and the nature is almost untouched. You will really enjoy! Starting point is somewhere on the road between Donji Milanovac and Tekija, you will see the table.

You should also visit Kladovo, with the hydroelectric power plant, and archeological site "Lepenski vir", somewhere between Golubac and Donji Milanovac.

I hope you will like Serbia and Djerdap! Enjoy!

Thanks a lot Vlada but it won´t be necessary!

Finally we decided to go by bus to Kladovo the first day and the upcomming days to Donji Milanovac and Golubac ba ck to Beograd as buses from BG-KL are quite frequent. But as you mentioned that bus Nis-Sarajevo is going through Uzice I would like to ask you something. You know, we decided to reach Sarajevo through Uzice as it seems much more easier than 7 hours long way through Lesnica. So we want to get to Uzice by bus from Beograd and then change to bus going to Sarajevo. If there is time we will also visit Tara NP as we plan to spend 7-8 days in Serbia. The problem is that I wasn´t able to find any informations about buses which depart from Uzice. Could you help me with it, for example post a link..? Thank you lot Vlada!

Thanks a lot Dragan,

We were considering to take tent but you know in Slovakia´s National Parks is strictly permitted to instal tent outside marked places so we wanted to avoid the same rule in Serbia by choosing accomodation. So again thanks a lot..

slovak language is slightly similar to serbian, so perhaps we will manage to discuss favorable price  ;) and ask the locals for the mentioned touristic paths

I've walked from Golubac to Lepenski Vir so let me tell you a few things that might be useful to you. The main road goes next to the Danube river and at some points it's really beautiful. There's a pedestrian path next to the road. I saw on Google Maps that there's also a dirt road somewhere but I haven't went there. The main road is not very maintained but there's little traffic so you should be safe. At some points there are beaches where you can go for a swim, it feels almost like you're in a sea because the Danube is huge!

I've planned to sleep in a tent but was later told by locals that it's really dangerous because the whole area is filled with snakes. I was also told not to climb any mountains because of snakes. After I said that I'm not concerned by this, the guy probably thought I was crazy and took me to Lepenski Vir, where the manager allowed me to sleep in one of the bungallows for free!

After Lepenski Vir, I planned to go to Donji Milanovac, but was told that it's very dangerous because the rest of the road would be mostly tunnels without roads for pedestrians. So at that point I took a bus back to Belgrade (ticket was around 600 din, Fudex company).

Well, I couldn't find Uzice bus station's site, but I will call them tomorrow or on Monday to check for the buses to Sarajevo and Tara.

About Tara mountain. By no doubt, for me, the most beautiful mountain in Serbia! Pine forests, tranquility and meadows. People are very friendly. There are two big hotels - "Omorika" and "Beli bor". "Omorika" is 4 stars hotel, "Beli bor" 3 stars hotel. Both of them situated at fantastic places. There is also a hostel named Javor. "Omorika" and "Javor" are at the region called "Kaludjerske bare". Beli bor is 5km from that place. I've been several times there but never by bus, but I know where it stops. It stops in front of the hotel "Omorika".  It's not that easy to travel across Tara if you don't have your own car, but there are a lot of places which you can reach on foot. Mountaineers' tracks are well marked. Tara has the purest air I've ever sensed...

Something more about accomodation. There are a lot of cottages to rent. You can find a number of them if you check this site: http://www.tara-planina.com/tara_hoteli.html

although it doesn't have an English version.

Hope I helped you a bit...

Greetings from the southern capital - Niš...

Your informations Vlada were more than helpful and I deeply appreciated your approach ;)

We have read about Tara NP and it seems a great location for floating on Drina river so we will see how much time we will have for it..If you´ll plan to visit Slovakia in the future just let me know and I´ll do my best to help you!

Greetings from Bratislava ;)

Well, after several phone calls, I managed to find out about bus lines. There is only one bus a day from Uzice to Tara and it departs from Uzice at 13:30h.  :(

As far as Uzice - Sarajevo is concerned, there are two buses a day - 11:10 in the morning and 02:10 after midnight. Perhaps there are some buses they haven't told me about, but these two should be certain.

If you´ll plan to visit Slovakia in the future just let me know and I´ll do my best to help you!

Thank you a lot  :)  Bratislava is definitely on my future list. If you come to the south, don't hesitate to contact me...    :mah:

I forgot to tell one more thing. Sarajevo has two main bus stations. One in Eastern Sarajevo (also known as Serbian Sarajevo) and one in Federation's Sarajevo. This complication is due to post - war legacy. Buses from Serbia go to Eastern Sarajevo. But, I think there is a trolley bus connecting those two stations.

Anyway, it would be good if someone else from this forum who has been to Sarajevo would say few things about this.

One more suggestion. On the road from Uzice to Sarajevo, 20 km or so after village Kremna there is a great thing to see. It is called "Mokra gora" (Wet mountain). It's a piece of Switzerland right in Serbia. There is a turistic train called "Šarganska osmica". The train is like it was built between WW1 and WW2. The steam engine, fantastic scenery, beautiful old stations restored... It is a round line and a ride lasts for two hours or so. It's very unique train because it runs on narrow tracks.

Nearby there is an etno village called "Mećavnik" built by our famous film director Emir Kusturica (two times winner of the Cannes film festival). Actually, the whole village was a set for one of his movies...

Thank you friend for both posts. It´s full of very usefull informations for us and I can again only say that I deeply appreciate your approach. We were told by Czechs who visited your country that you are very helpful and it´s true ;). As we have only 7 days now for Serbia, I am afraid that we won´t be able to see everything you have mentioned not even the most interesting sights to see in whole beautiful Serbia. But for sure we will come to see this amazing and very wrongfully blamed country again! as for that train railway, I think that you mean the one in this travelling blog http://ulaherova.blog.sme.sk/c/107466/Tamo-daleko-daleko-ot-mora.html

Kusturica is well known here as he studied in former Czechoslovakia and appeared many times in Prague and Bratislava. His Crna macka, beli macor, underground and zivot je cudo are pretty popular here same as his "court" composer Goran Bregovič ;)

I will write a review after our visit on tripadvisor and lonelyplanet :)

It was my pleasure that I could help, my dear friend  :)

As far as the railway is concerned, you are right! That's the one. You are very well informed.

You are always welcome to Serbia, I'm sure everyone will help.    :mah:
