Posted August 22, 2021 A protest in Franklin, Tennessee, led to parents yelling at medical professionals who had spoken in favor of masking. One parent told them there was 'a bad place in hell' for them. 'We know who you are,' another threatened. 'We will find you.' In Texas a parent ripped off a teacher’s mask, and in Northern California an anti-masker assaulted a teacher on the first day of school. In Los Angeles a reporter was attacked and one man was stabbed in an anti-vaccination protest. Likewise, a host of conservative politicians across the country is adding fuel to the flames with anti-vaccination rhetoric and legislation against masks. https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2021/08/some-americans-no-longer-believe-in-the-common-good/619856/ Reply

Posted October 14, 2021 https://lareviewofbooks.org/article/neofeudalism-the-end-of-capitalism/ "Under neofeudalism, the directly political character of society reasserts itself. Global financial institutions and digital technology platforms use debt to redistribute wealth from the world’s poorest to the richest. Nation-states promote and protect specific private corporations. Political power is exercised with and as economic power, not only taxes but fines, liens, asset seizures, licenses, patents, jurisdictions, and borders. At the same time, economic power shields those who wield it from the reach of state law. Ten percent of global wealth is hoarded in off-shore accounts to avoid taxation. Cities and states relate to Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, and Google/Alphabet as if these corporations were themselves sovereign states — negotiating with, trying to attract, and cooperating with them on their terms. Cash-strapped municipalities use elaborate systems of fines to expropriate money from people directly, impacting poor people the hardest." Posted December 19, 2021 Over three years, ALS, the incurable neurodegenerative disease slowly decreased 50-year-old Li Xiaozhong’s ability to control her muscles. Li thought that the sooner she died, the less she would suffer and burden her loved ones. To her despair, Li had survived her third suicide attempt. Realizing that she had lost the ability to end her own life, Li began to look for people on the internet to assist her. Some failed business people offered their services. Finally, Li reconnected with Zhang Gongjiang, and agreed on a price of 20,000 yuan ($3,140). On the day of the attempt, Zhang helped unscrewed the gas canisters. But the door to Li’s bedroom hadn’t been properly closed and was letting the gas escape. Three months later, she approached Zhang again to negotiate a second attempt using poison powder. But Li soon concluded that the poison was fake, because five minutes after eating it nothing happened. Li asked Zhang to return the money. But Zhang blocked her on WeChat. Less than a week after reporting to the police, Zhang was arrested. He returned the money. https://www.sixthtone.com/news/1009204/she-hired-her-own-assassin,-and-inspired-a-euthanasia-debate Reply
Posted January 2, 2022 Over the course of two painstaking years in the late 1990s, Saddam Hussein had sat regularly with a nurse and an Islamic calligrapher; the former drawing 27 litres of his blood and the latter using it as a macabre ink to transcribe a Qur'an. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2010/dec/19/saddam-legacy-quran-iraqi-government The "Blood Qur'an" is a copy of the Islamic holy book, the Qur'an, claimed to have been written in the blood of the former president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein, over the course of two years in the late 1990s. Saddam commissioned the book in 1997 on his 60th birthday, reportedly to give thanks to God for helping him through many "conspiracies and dangers". He explained his reasons for commissioning the book in a letter published by the Iraqi state media in September 2000: "My life has been full of dangers in which I should have lost a lot of blood ... but since I have bled only a little, I asked somebody to write God's words with my blood in gratitude." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_Quran Reply

Posted January 23, 2022 In October 2021, this was part of a three-minute video that went viral on WeChat. In no time, it drew more than 100,000 likes and 35,000 comments. Then, local authorities investigated the video. Soon after, they announced that the video’s creator had convinced Jike’erbu to perform in front of the camera in exchange for shoes, clothes, and school supplies. The house was set up to look dilapidated, and his face made up to look disheveled. In Liangshan, this poverty porn was not an isolated case. Many of the region’s Yi-ethnicity inhabitants rely on short videos or livestreams to earn a living, often putting poverty on display to attract more views. However, this strategy clashes with the local government’s narrative of poverty alleviation. https://www.sixthtone.com/news/1009512/in-rural-sichuan%2C-poverty-and-profit-are-just-a-click-apart Reply

Ovo nije poziv na političku diskusiju na forumu oko toga koja je zemlja ili političar u pravu (gluho i daleko bilo), nego samo deljenje najboljih izvora o ovoj temi na koje sam naišao: Is Vladimir Putin Right? Posted March 2, 2022 https://www.counterpunch.org/2022/03/01/america-defeats-germany-for-the-third-time-in-a-century/ "A major aim of today’s New Cold War is to monopolize the market for U.S. shipments of liquified natural gas (LNG). Already under Donald Trump’s administration, Angela Merkel was bullied into promising to spend $1 billion building new port facilities for U.S. tanker ships to unload natural gas for German use. The Democratic election victory in November 2020, followed by Ms. Merkel’s retirement from Germany’s political scene, led to cancellation of this port investment, leaving Germany really without much alternative to importing Russian gas to heat its homes, power its electric utilities, and to provide raw material for its fertilizer industry and hence the maintenance of its farm productivity." https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=If61baWF4GE Reply
